One of the best local bands in the history of Washington is doing a reunion show on the 29th. That's right, for one night only, you get one last chance to see Graveyard Shift live.
Come on...the singer is flying up from FLORIDA to do this.
its at studio 7...go.

If the Hansee Haunted House isn't on that day (which I'm pretty sure it is) I totally want to go!

Graveyard Shift was one of the coolest fucking local bands ever. They played some awesome damn phycobilly (punk and 50's rock with a little B grade horror movie mixed in) and were a big part of the SHR Arlington/Marysville "scene" (i hate using words like that, but I can't think of a better one). They broke up when their singer got married and moved off to Florida.
They came on stage with zombie makeup (total gimmick i know...but it was awesome). Not just the heavy black maskara and white face paint, but open wounds and scabbs...got it rocked...

Why did they break up? Because the guy moves to Florida?

Yeah, but they'd still be a band. They could get another singer and just start a new band. Bands do that all the fricken time.
The Police = Sting....uh....other examples....

I know, and it usually sucks ass when they do.
Example = The Misfits.

The Misfits? Are they a band that split up or a new band formed from old ones?

They used to be one of the best bands of the late 1970. They also have my respect in that they're one of the few punk bands who genuinly did there own thing in that they DIDN'T give a damn about politics. Every other punk band said, "You have to write a political song...at least one" And the Misfits said, "Fuck that, we just want to make some good music"
I like political punk songs myself, but that is commendable.
Anyways, the late 1990's roll around and the former bassist Jerry Only (who had no talent at all) saw record sales going up and tried to get the old members together. They all said "Fuck you Jerry" especially former front man Glen Danzig who now had a solo metal career. So Mr. Only gets 3 new guys who sound nothing like the old band, starts churning out generic horror rock and manufacturing action figures and bobbel heads of himself and the new band members....jerk...

Can he do that? Can't the old band members be like "Fuck you asshole!" and claim rights to their band name?

I think they all claim royalties, but yes, he gets to basically make a new crappy band as an empty shell of what the original was. And I also think that merch that doesn't have the original members on it doesn't fall under those royalties.
Plus, Danzig is rumored to hate his work with the original Misfits and may not even care.

Wow. That's so weird. It just reminds me of the time when you're band was SCAP and then the other band with that name got all pissed off and made you change it. It seems like the same rules would apply here for some reason. It's like having two different bands sharing one name.
